Simulate your lottery balls for the next 10 years, then realize you should quit while you're ahead

Using the Incredibly Depressing Mega Millions Lottery Simulator, you can feed your favorite balls into a program that runs them through 10 years of simulated lottery draws. You are then shown an utterly mollifying breakdown of all 1040 draws.

At the bottom, you can see how much money the next 10 years will cost you, and how much you stand to gain. For $1040 spent, the average winnings are only $90. After 10 page reloads, my maximum winnings were a massive $114.

With a truly minuscule return rate of 10%, you'd really be better off gambling on almost anything else. You'd certainly be better off playing roulette or poker at a casino, that's for sure. But, having said that, you have to be in it to win it!

Gmail lets you ditch Conversation View if you prefer an old school inbox

A while back, Henry Blodget caused a bit of a stir by informing the world that he really wasn't a big fan of Gmail's Conversation View. At the time, however, it was love it or leave it -- Gmail didn't have an option to return to an old-fashioned, unthreaded inbox.

That's all changed, however, with Google announcing today that you can now go threadless if you so choose. Just head to your Gmail settings page, tick the 'Conversation view off' radio button, and away you go! Email just the way I remember it looking in Pine when I first headed off to the University of Kentucky in 1994...

Real Life Iron-Man Suit for Soldiers

When I saw this Raytheon XOS 2 suit, I immediately thought of the scene in Iron Man 2 where a poor “volunteer” soldier is almost broken in two, his body snapped and wrung by an experimental exoskeleton he is wearing. So you can see how surprised I was to see Agent Phil Coulson from Iron [...]

Exclusive: VW's Terminal Mode prototype with a Nokia N97 at the helm, we go hands-on

What if you could plug any smartphone into your car and control your GPS, music and apps with large, vehicular controls? That's the entire idea behind Nokia's Terminal Mode. We trekked over to Volkswagen's research laboratories in Palo Alto, California to test the first working prototype actually integrated into a car -- a VW Passat, to be precise -- and got to put some German pedal to the metal with Ovi Maps guiding our every move. What did we think? Not bad for a product that's nearly two years away. Find out why (and get a video tour!) right after after the break.

The 3DS Was Supposed To Be Out This Year [3ds]

The one big surprise from yesterday's 3DS reveals from Nintendo was the fact that, even in Japan, the handheld would be missing the 2010 holiday season. Turns out it wasn't supposed to be that way. More »

Skype and Facebook teaming up on SMS, voice and video chat

If you're the biggest social network around and you need to tap someone for video chat, who better to do it than the biggest name in video calling? That's what Facebook thinks, and they're teaming up with Skype to deliver SMS and voice/video chat using Facebook Connect.

As Kara Swisher reports, Facebook hopes that giving users stronger communication tools will lead to a tighter community -- more users using it more often. Skype will likely see a nice increase in its monthly usage as well. While 124 million people Skyping at least once a month is certainly impressive, Facebook integration will no doubt provide a big boost.

Skype 5, which is set to release in a few weeks, will add a Facebook tab from where you'll be able to SMS or call your FB friends. The new version is currently in beta testing right now, but Facebook integration has yet to appear.

Kia Pop recharges in 6 hours with 87mph top speed and 100-mile range

After an August tease the all-electric Kia Pop concept car is now getting a proper reveal at the Paris Motor Show. Pop is a three-meter long three seater featuring a number of futuristic touches like rear-view cameras in each door, a full length glass roof, and an otherwise transparent OLED panel that displays all your instrument readouts only when the car is running. A second touch panel to the right of the steering wheel controls the vehicle's other functions including audio, sat-nav, and climate. Under the hood you'll find a 60-ps, 190-Nm motor powered by lithium polymer gel batteries capable of charging in just six hours. Combined we're looking at an 87mph (140kph) top speed and 100-mile (160-km) max range. Of course, knowing the auto industry, by the time it hits the assembly lines it'll likely resemble an unimaginative shoebox using whatever off-the-shelf parts Kia can find. But a boy can dream can't he?

Blio for Windows review, now available for download

Last week we brought you news that KNF-B was prepping for a September 28 launch of its Blio e-reader software, and according to our date books, the time has come! The free PC software (Windows XP, Vista and 7 are all supported) can be downloaded now at the source link below; the iPhone app should be hitting the App Store very soon, however. We've been using the program for the last few days to, you know, "read," so before heading over to download it yourself you'll naturally want to hit the break for our impressions of the unique reading application.
