Readability launches HTML5 Web app, eschews Apple App Store

Readability HTML5 Web app
After having its recent iOS app pulled from the App Store by Apple, Readability has turned its attention to Open Web technologies and released an HTML5-powered Web app.

The new Readability app is accessed by simply visiting www.readability.com on a mobile device, and it looks very similar to the native iOS app. This of course means that Readability is finally available for Android, too! It should work on the iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, and even the Nook. Readability, no doubt with a jaunty smile, says that it took its dev team just two weeks to write the new app.

The new Readability Web app has offline support (presumably through HTML5's localStorage), and you can easily share what you're reading via Facebook, Twitter or email. Because it's a Web app, every article that you read has a unique URL that you can easily share -- cool.

If you're a desktop user, there's a Readability browser add-on that does much the same thing.

Incidentally, iOS users, there may be some hope of a native app returning: Readability says it re-submitted its app to Apple a couple of weeks ago, and is still waiting for approval or rejection.
